Live Rain Radar

A free rain radar map showing where it is raining right now and where storms are heading, with satellite-observed lightning and an hour-by-hour rain forecast up to five days ahead.

What does the radar show?

Weather radar sends pulses that bounce off raindrops and hail, measuring where precipitation falls and how heavy it is at up to 1 km resolution. Colours range from light drizzle to heavy rain and thunderstorms, and the timeline replays the last two hours so you can see which way the rain is moving.

Where is radar coverage available?

We composite ground radar on our own servers from the US MRMS network, the European OPERA network, and the Canadian and Italian radar networks, refreshed every 2 to 5 minutes. Where radar networks do not publish open data, including most of the Middle East and Africa, use the satellite layer, observed lightning and the GFS/ECMWF precipitation forecast instead.

Lightning and thunderstorms

Lightning strikes observed by the GOES and MTG satellites appear on top of the radar about every two minutes, often the earliest sign that a thunderstorm is forming. Active tropical cyclones are shown with their forecast track and cone from the US National Hurricane Center.
